Metal Primer

Zinc Yellow Primer

Macaw Zinc Yellow Primer contains a special type of synthetic binder and anticorrosive zinc pigment to resist the corrosion of the ferrous metal vs MS, SS, etc. It is ideal for priming of metal surfaces and for overcoating with aluminum or bitumen or synthetic ready-mixed paint of light colours. It is free from heavy metal like lead, mercury, etc.

How to Apply

Application Process

STEP 01

SURFACE PREPARATION

Before painting metal surfaces, it must be made free of rust, dirt, oil and grease. Remove grease, oil or any other contaminants by using Degreasing Solvent

STEP 02

SCRUBBING

Prepare the surface by scrubbing with a wire brush or Sand/Emery Paper no. 150/180 to ensure the surface is clean and smooth. Wipe clean with MTO and make sure the surface is fully dry

STEP 03

Horizontal/Roof Application

Priming- Dilute Macaw Home Care PU Coat with 50% of potable water and apply as priming coat. Continuous stirring is required while mixing and recommended drying time is 4-6 hours. Waterproof Coating- Apply 2 undiluted coats with an interval of 4-6 hours

STEP 04

Vertical/Wall Application

Priming- Dilute Macaw Home Care PU Coat with 50% of potable water and apply as priming coat. Continuous stirring is required while mixing and recommended drying time is 4-6 hours. Waterproof Coating- Apply 1 coat, 25% dilution with proposed drying time of 4-6 hours. Must apply desired exterior topcoat (2 coats) as per suggested dilution.

Product FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

The zinc yellow primer is developed to be used in order to protect ferrous metal substrates, mild steel, structural steel and other similar substances from corrosion prior to application of any top coat paint to these substrates. The Macaw Zinc Yellow Primer consists of an especially designed synthetic binder along with the anticorrosive zinc pigments that have been specifically formulated to be resistant to the formation of rust on the MS and SS substrates. It is typically applied on steel and timber structures, bridges and building components (interior and exterior), mostly in the new constructions as well as ancillary metals. The paint itself is lead-free and free from the mercury, thus making it an environmentally friendly paint for structural uses in general. Additionally, it can also be utilized as the coating surface for the overcoating by the aluminum, bitumen or synthetic ready-mixed paints in light colors.

Zinc yellow primer is the kind of primer that should be utilized whenever the surfaces of ferrous metals have to be protected from corrosion prior to the application of any other coat, especially where steel, bridges, gates, or wooden surfaces will be covered with aluminum, bitumen, or white paints. Macaw Zinc Yellow Primer is meant for such application, as it creates an anticorrosive coating that provides a necessary level of corrosion protection according to recognized standards prior to applying a topcoat. This kind of primer is the most efficient to use in the early stages of a construction project or any renovation, directly applied to clean and rust-free metal or wood surface before any further weathering occurs. Being a primer that works well with different kinds of topcoats, zinc yellow primer is also a good choice when the final color of the coating has not been established yet.

The best anti rust primer for metal before painting depends on the metal type and what topcoat follows, but for ferrous surfaces needing both protection and finishing flexibility, zinc yellow primer is a strong option. Macaw Zinc Yellow Primer combines a synthetic binder with anticorrosive zinc pigment, passing recognised corrosion resistance standards while staying compatible with aluminium, bitumen, or synthetic ready-mixed topcoats in light shades. This versatility makes it particularly useful for structural steel, bridges, and building elements where the final paint colour might still be undecided at this stage. Unlike red oxide primer, typically paired with enamel in darker tones, zinc yellow primer suits lighter finish applications better. Whichever anti rust primer gets chosen, thorough surface prep, removing rust, oil, and grease before application, remains essential for the primer to deliver its protective performance over the metal's working life.

The zinc rich primer is preferred over the normal metal primer in instances where there is need for more permanent and strong anti-corrosion protection especially for structures such as steel and bridges or exposed metals. The Macaw Zinc Yellow Primer achieves this because of its zinc pigment which acts as an anti-corrosive substance with an oleoresinous binder that guarantees more protection according to the industry recognized corrosion standards and not merely rust protection. Metal primers may give satisfactory protection for less crucial uses in addition to those protected from the elements; zinc rich primers on the other hand normally give better protection and for long periods of time. The application of light colored paints, aluminum, bitumen or light synthetics is another case where the zinc yellow primer can be used as it is compatible with these finishes.

Lead-free primer paint comes with many advantages both in terms of application as well as the lifetime of the paint coating due to the associated health risks posed by the lead-based paints through the process of dusting and degradation over time. The Macaw Zinc Yellow Primer has been developed in a manner that it does not contain any heavy metals such as lead and mercury, although the paint provides high quality of anticorrosion through the use of zinc pigment. It becomes important to consider this point especially when the painted surface is going to be used in occupied buildings or school buildings or residences where lead-based paints could pose health risks to those who come into contact with the painted surface in the coming years.
