Product FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Acrylic distemper is a finishing paint for the interior walls that is cost-effective as well as based on water to give a matte appearance to the walls for normal living areas without any additional expense for the full acrylic emulsion required for it. Macaw Shuddhi Acrylic Distemper is especially made for that purpose; a good quality water-based distemper having a high covering ability that can easily cover the stains and markings on the interiors walls that have been plastered. As it is eco-friendly paint for walls and does not contain any extra ingredients like lead, mercury or chromium or VOCs, it is also a low voc interior paint. It is especially used in bedrooms or rented rooms where washable and high sheen paint is not a requirement. Acrylic distemper requires two to three coats of painting when applied on a properly prepared wall.

Acrylic distemper paint and water based distemper paint are closely related, since acrylic distemper is itself a type of water-based distemper, just formulated with acrylic polymers for better hiding power and finish quality than older, more basic distemper mixes manage. Macaw Shuddhi Acrylic Distemper illustrates this, offering good hiding power and a matt finish while remaining water-based and low in VOC throughout. Older or more basic water-based distemper, without the acrylic component, tends to offer weaker coverage and is more prone to chalking or rubbing off over time, the reason the acrylic version exists at all. The acrylic binder strengthens the paint film, giving it better durability and a cleaner finish than plain distemper while keeping the lower cost that makes distemper attractive to begin with. For most budget repainting projects, acrylic distemper offers a meaningfully better result for a small price difference.

Water based distemper paint offers a few practical benefits, mainly lower cost, easier application, and reduced odour compared to older oil-based or solvent-heavy interior paints that used to be more common. Macaw Shuddhi Acrylic Distemper adds to this with an eco-friendly formulation, free from added lead, mercury or chromium, and low VOC content that makes it safer for enclosed indoor spaces specifically. Its good hiding power also means underlying stains or marks get covered effectively without needing excessive coats, which keeps the overall painting cost reasonable. Water-based formulations are also easier to clean up during application and dry faster than oil-based alternatives, which helps keep painting projects roughly on schedule. For interior walls where budget matters more than heavy-duty washability, water based distemper paint remains a sensible, cost-effective choice that still improves noticeably on bare or ageing plaster.

Certainly, acrylic distemper paint is designed for interior walls and this feature makes it one of the most common options for bedrooms, living rooms and other interiors where matt finish is required instead of some luxurious ones. Macaw Shuddhi Acrylic Distemper can be used for coating plastered surfaces with high covering power without causing any staining of the substrate and being environmentally friendly with low VOC content. Acrylic distemper paint should be applied to well-prepared surface, usually, to the surface which is primed with interior primer and coated with acrylic wall putty to even out all the irregularities of the surface with further sanding process, which becomes particularly important in case of distemper application rather than premium emulsions. The point is that less smooth surface is more visible under thin film of distemper. When used properly, acrylic distemper provides matt finish and saves money compared with acrylic emulsion.

While applying the distemper on an untreated wall surface is possible, it does not yield good results, which include inconsistent coating, poor adhesion, and shorter longevity of the finish. To have the best outcome when applying Macaw Shuddhi Acrylic Distemper, one should clean the wall from any loose material and dust and apply the interior primer on the wall before starting anything. Once it is done, one can apply acrylic wall putty, to smoothen the surface and hide any cracks present. Sanding and application of another layer of primer are required before distemper is applied on the wall surface. Lack of following such a preparation procedure often leads to uneven absorption of the distemper on the raw plastered wall, resulting in uneven color distribution, requiring additional coats. In general, distemper is easier to work with and less expensive than emulsions.
