Frequently Asked Questions

In order to protect exterior walls from water, the paint should be both waterproof and properly primed, using a separate water proof base or primer in addition to the actual paint. LifeCoat Anti-Fungal Exterior Emulsion has greater covering capacity and better performance and durability than cement paint as well as mold and algae resistant properties that complement its weather-resistant properties. However, for walls where there is more threat of water entering through seepage or cracks, using this exterior emulsion paint in conjunction with a separate damp-proof base or primer provides a more comprehensive solution than the top coat alone. Proper filling of hairline cracks in addition to applying the proper fillers before painting further eliminates any sources of water entering walls that cannot be stopped by paint alone.

Matte finish paint can indeed be used for most wall surfaces since this finish does not reflect light, giving off a soft appearance and is also more tolerant of imperfections in the substrate than a glossy finish could handle. LifeCoat Anti-Fungal Exterior Emulsion is a matt finish exterior paint that also provides protection against fungi and algae growth while being more durable than normal cement paints. Matte finish paint on walls spreads out the light instead of reflecting it straight off, allowing any small lumps or roughness on the surface to be less noticeable compared to when using a glossy paint finish. The downside is that matte finish paint is somewhat less washable than satin and gloss finishes, although that should not be an issue for exterior walls.

The ideal choice of waterproof paint for exterior surfaces would be one that is not only resistant to moisture but also prevents any kind of fungus from growing on the surface, because it is seen that both these factors go hand in hand in the humid Indian conditions. The LifeCoat Anti-Fungal Exterior Emulsion is one such paint that does not only provide better coverage and protection and durability than simple cement paints but also the anti-fungal properties prevent the staining of the walls due to dampness that is usually untreated. For a total waterproofing performance, it would be best to use a primer in conjunction with this exterior emulsion paint and if necessary, even a damp-proof base coat can help the walls become more resistant to water infiltration.

The exterior emulsion paint does provide water resistance, but it is not completely waterproof in the manner of waterproof membrane. The exterior emulsion paint minimizes the water permeation while shedding the rain, instead of providing a full-proof water barrier by preventing the moisture from penetrating in under the force. The LifeCoat Anti-Fungal Exterior Emulsion has much higher performance and durability compared to the cement paints along with the fungus and algae resistance and thus provides complete protection against the elements for almost all types of exterior walls. However, for those walls which have problems with water leakage, active seepage, structural cracks, or even water sitting on the wall, it is advisable to use waterproof primer/base coat under the top coat for better protection.
